Phone for a man
Rating:

If you're a guy, looking for just a damn good guy's phone, without unnecessary bells and whistles - look no further.

The Samsung Convoy is a little thicker than your average flip phone. It fills the hand nicely, but not too much.

Reception in my area (southern Minnesota) has been stellar, and the phone sounds crystal clear.

Camera does a good job for what it's designed to do. No complaints. If I want better pictures, I'll reach for one of my cameras with higher resolution.

Pros:
Tough and sized right for a man's hands.

No nonsense look - not a fashion statement.

Still uses the old style Samsung chargers, so if you used a Samsung in the past and have older home and/or car chargers around, you can use them.

Ringtone volume on high is attention getting loud, even when in a nylon belt case/holster.

Battery lasts several days on standby. I charge 2x a week, unless I really call alot, them maybe 3x.

This phone surprised me in how much I can customize the shortcuts for my uses. Not 100 percent the way I'd like, but very close. Makes it easy to put your useful features a button press or two away. I found this really handy.

Cons:

None worth mentioning. Really can't find anything I don't like about this phone.

Summary:
If all you want is a tough, dust resistant, water resistant phone, look no further. It has all the basic features a guy needs. It will text, has a calendar, calculator..... basically everything one would want if having a good phone is your first priority.

If you are heavily into texting, internet, e-mail - all that other stuff other than just a good phone, look for something else.

I'd have given it a full 5 stars, but for some reason, this phone wouldn't recognize the pictures on my card from my older Samsung phone, so my picture ID's wouldn't install on this phone. Not a biggie, but worth mentioning - just have to retake the pictures.

Without a doubt the best choice...
Rating:

Samsung Convey PTT phone hands down better than Casio or Motorola...

Pros...great build quality, excellent sound quality with durability...very functional as voice phone or PTT phone with solid features...best value in class...

Cons...nothing worth mentioning no major flaws...

Verizon is fast becoming the best PTT service with largest PTT network offering the most features and truly the best in phones...

Very solid PTT phone with many useful features and sound pricing...

LIMITATIONS
Rating:

I have the Convoy, but have had to relegate it to the closet because of the problem with the speaker phone. I had no idea when I bought the Convoy that using the speaker phone would not be viable. VZW does not advertise the fact that they are going with obsolete (outmoded) technology in utilizing what is called a Half- Duplex speaker phone, instead of a Full-Duplex speaker phone. So I had to go out and purchase a Casio G'zOne Ravine, which has the Full-Duplex speaker phone, so that parts of my conversations will no longer be chopped off and lost, like they were with the Convoy. Also, the resolution on the Convoy was defective, only being 176x220 pixels, instead of the 240x320 pixels on the Ravine, which a 2.2" main screen should have.

Poor performance for a Verizon phone
Rating:

Our work recently switched from Nextel to this phone so we could do the PTT. There has been nothing but complaints since then.

Reception: worse than Nextel. I even work in a very urban area that Verizon is well saturated in. I miss phone calls and then get a notice of a voice mail (never got that on Nextel). PTT calls will miss sometimes also.

Call quality: mediocre at best. Sometimes hard to understand.

Customizability: Only one tone for PTT, unable to change it. A lot of people complain about that.

Overall I am very disappointed in this phone. Verizon should have a better phone than this. Their pitch about PTT working as long as the tower is up is also questionable (with the Nextel we had it was supposed to have direct connect with a range of several miles even if the tower went down).

Great Man-Phone
Rating:

With the phones of today that will do just about anything, it's great that Samsung made a phone that the Blue Collar worker and every day guy can be happy with. It should be advertised as the perfect man-phone. Good battery life, (in general 2 to 3 days), pretty simple to use. Perfect for a man. It does loose signal from time to time, but I would imagine that they all do that.

Fluctuating signal
Rating:

I actually like the feel and build of this phone, but it is constantly going in and out of service.
It will have good 1x and 3g service and then it wont have 1x then it wont have 3g and then it will have no service on the screen then it will be in extended network, then back on verizon.
It does this constantly and runs the battery down very fast.
This is the second one and its just as bad, so I give up.
Was going to use it for a second PTT phone as I have the motorola v860 barrage, and that is a great phone.
